Spring Tree Trimming and Clean-Up

Now that spring has officially arrived, there is no better time than now to give your trees a fresh start and healthy look. By properly trimming your trees, you can help them grow new leaves and also prolong their overall health. Follow Tree Spark’s advice on spring tree pruning, and give us a call to help with your landscaping needs.

When to Trim Your Trees

When, exactly, to trim your trees will depend on the tree type and the age of the tree, but a general rule of thumb to follow is pruning mature trees every three to five years, and younger trees every two to three years. However, certain trees, like oak trees and fruit trees, have their own specific needs that will need to be taken into consideration. Our expert specialists can advise you on the specific care needs of individual trees.

Not All Trees Can Be Trimmed the Same Way.

How Much of the Tree to Prune

To encourage growth and health among your trees, you should never exceed pruning more than 25% of the tree’s foliage. Tree limbs that appear to be in good health with growing foliage should merely be trimmed, while limbs that are no longer growing at all (or are broken) can be pruned completely. While pruning, you should also take into consideration limbs that are bending and interfering with the growth of other limbs; these will need to be trimmed as well, but not completely removed.
